They have an amazing wine list, which has one of the smallest mark-ups of anyplace I've seen in the US.
I haven't been in several years, but the French restaurant was very proper and fairly old-line...I thought it was pretty good. But if you love wine, you'll really love the place.

Explaining Cavey;s is hard because for many people the cost is excessive.

The food in both..up and down is as creative and innovative as any I have seen in the US.

Steve Cavagnaro, who is the owner and chef comes from a long tradition of food and has established a business that serves food that is second to none.

If you go...talk to the people..Marco the upstairs MDee and Andre...downstairs...and ask about the food...I had braised pork bellies a few weeks ago served over risotto...with a glass of Montelulciano...the experience cannot be described.

Spend the money and do it right...don;t skimp...order extra apps and desserts...tip the staff and then go back again...I can;t think of a better hobby... and for a little more than a round of golf at a nice course.

Note...the people who own Mulberry St Pizza on S. Main St are Cavey;s veterans...go get a pizza and ask the woman who owns it...she'll talk about it.

Hey sodagirl. I thought one of the Sulicks owned Mulberry and I believe he was sous chef at Cavey's for a time. Just parenthetically....when I moved to Ct 35 yrs ago Cavey's was the only restaurant in the state w NY Times reviewer's highest rating. All your comments and those of Foodie Jim are right on.

you know people and you know history...Cavey;s recieved 3 stars from Mimi Sheraton...at the time it was almost unheard of...before the days of L'Americaine and others ...the early 80's was a great time in the Hartford area for food...Cavey;s was doing stuff back then that I read about as innovative and creative today...way way ahead of their time.
