Iron Gates or Tabard Inn for lunch

taresa514 May 1, 2008 01:36 PM

For various reasons, I will be having lunch at one of these places tomorrow with an old friend (hooray for re-connecting!)
Question is, do I need reservations? Any experience?

The ONLY reason to go to Iron Gate and put up with their consistently mediocre food and service is that at this time of year, there is a large, very old Wisteria vine covering the outdoor patio that should be in full bloom. Better yet, have a good meal at Tabard and stroll across the street for a peek at the vine.

The food at Tabard is leagues better. Make a reservation. The patio at Iron Gate is lovely - too bad the food doesn't match.

Tabard Inn all the way. I'd make a reservation though, it can be hard to get a table.

ditto. And if the weather holds out, try to get a seat on the outside patio/courtyard...one of the most charming spots in town.
