Good Tacos in Philadelphia?

A colleague and regular office lunch partner heats up Trader Joe's Tacos as his go-to lunch. I mentioned that we could surely find a better taco than that in Philly, so a road trip is in order.

Any recommendations? We are starting from the City Ave area, and prefer to keep within the Philly area.

  1. no brainer - 9th and Washington. Taqueria on Washington, just west of9th on the south side of the street, Taqueria de Puebla on 9th below washington, Some like Lupe on 9th just above Pats and Genos. That whole area is divine - for more than tacos go to Plaza Garibaldi on Washington west of nineth on the north side of the block

I agree. Personally Los Taquitos de Puebla is my favorite, for the tacos al pastor and longanizas tacos. Taqueria Veracruzana is great too, so is El Jarrocho at 13th and Ellsworth. I don't recommend La Lupe.

It's kind of a hike from City Ave. though.

Thanks for correcting my restaurant names B-head!

    2. i loved los taquits de puebla! i didn't have tacos, but my company assured me the al pastor and alambres were excellent.

my personal favorite, thanks to the need to watch a LOT of flyers games, are now officially azure's mahi mahi tacos. indescribable, but when i ordered them, guys at the bar AND the bartender stopped just short of clapping me on the back telling me "way to go!!!" so i can tell you, i was recently added to a list of people who are downright passionate about these tacos.

      1. The best tacos, IMO, are from the taco truck Don Memo, which is on 38th just south of Chestnut. It's probably only open on weekdays and during the day, and there is often a long line, but it's worth the wait. Their tacos al Pastor are the best around.
