Best Mexican near Studio City / NoHo

What's the best Mexican restaurant? I don't mind a hole in a wall as long as it has REALLY good soft tacos. I love a good carnitas or carne asada tacos. Must have good salsa as well.

  1. How about a place with no walls? El Taco Llama on Magnolia and Bakman. YUM.

Magnolia and Bakman is where Casita Taco is located. The closest El Taco Llama is several blocks to the east. But it would be my recommendation also. Not only are the carne asada tacos great, but the lamb birria tacos are outstanding.

Wow, I've only been out of the Valley a year and a half or so and already my memory of the street names is gone. Thanks for the update!!

And Casita Taco is good as well, yet hardly dinner-worthy, unless you just want your basic taco stand environment.

I second El Taco Llama -- next to the car wash. I had drive by this place for many years wondering what the food was like. About 4 months ago I tried it and now look forward to going back at least once a week. Very tasty and much more authentic than most of the competitors.

Thanks for the recommendation everybody! I myself have been driving by there countless times but never stopped...until this weekend!

Any other gems in the NoHo area people want to divulge, I'm just starting to scratch the surface on all the amazing, cheap food in the area.

Tony's Mexican Grill on Magnolia & Coldwater, ask for their special spicy salsa too, great spot!

To bad we dont have much since this is where I live too yet my favorite is near my office in Chatsworth on Lasson & DeSoto-FAST TACO-Tacos al carbon, the best Al Pastor tacos this side of TJ or I should say for the Valley.

Since I'm not about to drive to East LA or downtown truck just for a taco

          2. My favorites are Tacos La Fonda, a truck that parks in a carwash on the northwest corner of Vineland and Vanowen, and Tacos El Zorro in a strip mall on the northeast corner of Coldwater and Sherman Way. Tacos El Zorro has wonderful seafood cocktiels as well as great tacos. I found these places thanks to the inestimable Bandini, whose website, http://www.tacohunt.blogspot.com/, is required reading for anyone looking for Mexican food in Los Angeles.

Your comma got caught up in the URL for Bandini's blog, which is a common problem here, (often times it's the parens that gets caught). Here it is in working order: http://www.tacohunt.blogspot.com/

Thank you. Typing is not my forte. Tried Mariscos Colima on Vanowen near Vineland last night. My whole fish was a bit overcooked, but fresh and tasty. Worth a visit.

            2. Torta's has great tacos if you ask for their homemade tortillas. Their albondigas is rustic and delicous as well. On Ventura near Vineland.

              1. HUGO's taco (stand) corner of Coldwater and Riverside. Healthy and tasty, got a half dozen salsas.

The stuff at Las Fuentes (vanowen & reseda) is home made, cheap, and legit, and the decor is a day glo riot

                1. Super Tacos Michoacan on Vineland at Chandler, and there's a real hole in the wall on Vineland across the street from La Colmenita market, I want to say near Burbank Bl.Mariscos Colima is also a favortite Valley hit for me.Pescado relleno y unas chelas o una michelada por favor.

Thank for the spots, I'm in this area like four times a week rehearsing!

The place across from La Colmenita has a large Tacos de Barbacoa sign and is at Oxnard on Vineland. The place at Chandler is now called Calimex, it had changed owners this past year.Great stops after an Amp rehearsal!
