My favorite bbq is Corky's in Brentwood. Didn't see where you are staying, but it's good stuff.

We can definitely help you with that. Three questions:
1. Where will you be staying?
2. Will you have a car?
3. How far are you willing to drive?›6 Replies-

Okay. I think you will like Opryland very well. It's an incredible place. And incredibly large.
For barbecue, though, you will need to get out of that area.
I think the greatest barbecue places in Middle Tennessee are in the outlying towns, which are really too far away to reach by cab. But there are some really good places in the city you can try. My personal recommendation is that you take the "Wildhorse Shuttle" from Opryland to downtown Nashville. It costs about $15 per person round trip and departs hourly. This will drop you off on 2nd Avenue downtown, where you will be within easy walking distance of all of the attractions downtown has to offer. Plus, there is a barbecue restaurant nearby called Jack's. Jack's is kind of touristy, but it really does have great barbecue.
If you want to branch out and try some places that are more off the beaten path, here are a few that I'd recommend: Hog Heaven, Neely's, Mary's...
As far as non-barbecue "southern-style" cooking, my three favorites are Swett's, Arnold's, and Monell's.

re: jamiecarroll
ive been reading chowhound for a while, this is my first post. i live in spring hill tennessee, just south of nashville about 35-40 minutes. i would like to give credit to jamiecarrol recommendation on a previous thread about martins bbq in nolensville. we've been there a few times now and i think it might be the best i have personally had, its definitely the best ive had around nashville. martins is borderline on your 30 minute travel limit, give or take 5 minutes or so....but i would highly recommend it!! hog heaven is very good....especially the white sauce on the chicken sandwich. jacks on trinity is really good too. the others in my opinion are o.k. thanks again jamiecarrol.....looking forward to posting more here at chowhound.

Where you are is about 10 miles out of downtown, so Jack's via the shuttle is your best bet. We had Jack's about 3 weeks ago, and I have to confes it was very good. Hog Heaven is about 4 miles west, out West End avenue (easy by bus), Neely's is a couple of miles north out 8th avenue (not easy except by cab). Mary's was not good the last time I ate there. Really, Jack's is your easiest option. Is Judge Bean's still open at 12th and Porter, or whatever that corner is? It's Texas-style beef barbecue and on a good day, it's quite good.
