liege waffles? beignet mix?

My sister sent me a link to a new waffle place in town (http://nymag.com/restaurants/openings...). Although I'm pretty excited about it (I love liege waffles!), it got me to thinking - is there anywhere that you can buy pre-packaged liege waffles/luiksewafles (the hardened ones with chunks of sugar in them) in NYC? I'm hoping maybe there's a store that sells them. I got spoiled when I was in Europe, and I miss them :(

Also, does anyone know any stores in NYC that sell Cafe Du Monde beignet mix? I could order it from them online, but it would be nice if I could pick one up somewhere local.

  1. I don't know where you can buy premade Liege waffles. But you should check out the Wafels & Dinges truck, if you haven't already. Personally, I prefer the Brussels waffle, though. Here's the link where you can find their menu and where they will be located around town: http://www.wafelsanddinges.com/ .

I have tried the waffles at Wafels and Dinges :) Who doesn't love a waffle truck? I was hoping there was somewhere that had pre-packaged ones, but perhaps I'm out of luck.

Uh, Wafels and Dinges ONLY has liege waffles that are premade...

Well, yeah. But I thought the OP was asking for "premade" to indicate packaged to bring home. But perhaps the OP can ask the truck if s/he can buy a whole bunch and freeze them or something.

You can, I do it every time I go. I get about 5 and refrigerate them all. They last for 2 weeks in the fridge. I forget how long they said they could last in the freezer, since I've never frozen them.

Thanks! That's great information. Maybe on Sunday I'll head to Fairway to catch the truck and get a bunch.

      2. Pretty sure the Whole Foods in Chelsea has the beignet mix from Cafe du Monde.
