  • 4

We are heading for May Day in Padstow (from Bath) and wanted to grab some food on the way down (the night before). Does anyone have any recomendation for a great Fish & Chip shop?

John - thanks, unfortuantly it closes at 8:00 and we probably won't have made it by then (it is also not that good - based on my last visit).

We head to the lakes after that (madness I know) and I have noted Martin and your recomendations. We are booked into the Queens Head at Troutbeck on Friday, and will try for the Drunken Duck another night....L'Enclume was vetoed on cost grounds, by the CFO....!

The Duck gets consistently good mentions - although I havnt yet been there nor have had any personal reccs. I am trying to negotiate with the household authorities over L'Enclume - unfortunately it is outside our current programme of eats within an hours drive (but Fraiche isnt!), so may have to wait a while.

    2. I spent some time in Torquay back in the early 90's there was a chippy there that dipped their chips in a light coating of batter. Something that I was told was a practice from the Black Country.

Anyway it was a very nice effect. Trying to remember the name of the chippy, maybe Barton Hill? Maybe Hele? Can anyone else remember?? There is also Hanburys in Babbacome who have won some awards, but I preferred the other place with the battered chips :-)

Edit: The battered chip thing is also known as 'Orange Chips' and it is a Black Country thing.
