Athens to Winston-Salem
Howdy, kids. We're heading north to visit friends this weekend. We're leaving late Thursday afternoon, which will have us wanting to eat dinner somewhere between Athens and Charlotte. Looks like we'll be on I-85 for all of that stretch.
Any tips on darned good grub before reaching Charlotte would be welcome. I like to eat early, we'll reach Charlotte too late for dinner, and we love good food no matter where it is. Greenville? Spartanburg? Gastonia? Smaller towns in between?
Maybe we can avoid heavy Souther-style stuff, as we'll be loading up on Carolina BBQ, Carolina hot dogs, and Carolina meat 'n' threes while in Winston. And sorta near I-85 would be nice, although reasonable detours are entirely okay for great food. This is one of the main reasons I'm posting as well as searching, as we don't want any crazy detours.
Thanks for the help.
There is a sandwich shop in d/t King's Mountain--the city proper not the battle field park--right off the main drag that sells some of the best subway-style sandwiches out there. If memory serves it is called The Sub Factory. The sandwiches look like the advetisements for the chains. We stopped there after a recommendation fr/ the ranger at King's Mountain Battle Field Park.
I just did a bit more searching, and if Danna is right, and I have strong feeling we would agree on just about everything culinary, then we're in for a bad meal on our trip. Dangit.
Maybe we should push on through to Charlotte and eat later. Maybe Dim Sum. Anything good near I-85 in Charlotte that qualifies as Chowhoundish?
