ISO North Tucson

Looking for a good meal tomorrow night in North Tucson. Meeting people driving in from PHX so prefer the North side for their convenience in getting back on the road after dinner. Nice atmosphere, not fussy, any cuisine. Any help appreciated.

  1. Vivace (Italian) is excellent. Your friends can get off at the Orange Grove exit, make the first right (River Rd.) and follow it all the way to Campbell (~7-8 miles is my guess). Even on a Monday or Tuesday you'll probably need a reservation.

That's be perfect but we're having lunch there! How's the restaurant North?

North and Vivace are 1-2 or 2-1 for me. (I focused on Vivace because of the easy on/off I-10 access.) If you're up for Italian 2X North is great. (Note: plenty of chowhounds are not fans, and the chain aspect (Fox Restaurant Concepts) may account for some of it. I always have a very good meal at North. It's a little loud and young, but I like the energy!

    2. North and Vivace are both solid, but serve very different food. North: stylish, edgy (the menu takes liberties in describing the dishes, which I find amusing but my hubby did not when his "lasagna" was more like a soup - it was delicious, though). Vivace: traditional menu and preparations (my teenager calls it "old-fashioned" food). North is louder, flashier, and more scenic; Vivace is more romantic.

      1. Thanks for the suggestions. We had a great lunch at Vivace, solid, friendly service, food and ambiance. For dinner we went to The Grill at Hacienda del Sol which was pretty good. Nice to sit outside and enjoy the views AND to have the option to order from the more casual grill menu. We'll be back to both places.
