MD Beer & Food Fest - Ripken Stadium

  • 0

Went to the MD Beer & Food Fest at Ripken Stadium today. $15 gets you in and 8 little (I mean shot glass size) beer/wine samples. I was DD'ing, but the BF, a beer aficionado, enjoyed the very good selection (>100) of different craft brews. There appeared to be a decent selection of wines represented as well. The only food available for sample was inside the "Celebrity Chef" tent, where a $5 donation to Habitat for Humanity got you 10 tickets for food samples -- I found this actually the better deal.

On Sunday afternoon, at least, there were only were only 4-5 restaurants represented under the "celebrity chef" tent, and only one actual chef there cooking. The food samples were tasty, but only one really got me excited -- Main Street Tower from Bel Air had their executive chef doing a garlicky shrimp and jumbo lump crabmeat in fresh tomato sauce. Apparently this has been the winner of the #1 dish at the festival recently (this year or last?).

Outside of the beer and food tent, there were a number of other festival food concessions for sale -- typical stuff you'd see at any festival... brats, italian sausages, boardwalk fries, etc... and 1-2 more interesting vendors (an Indian restaurant from Belair - Sizzling Bombay?).

Overall - a decent way to spend a weekend afternoon (too bad today's weather wasn't nicer), but outside of the nice alcohol selection, nothing to really get a chowhound excited.

You can see the breweries that participated at www.mdbeerfoodfest.com .
