Elk Creek Cafe in Millheim on Route 45

Had a very good meal there the other night. This lovely retail space in Millheim has been through a lot of changes over the last ten years, as has the whole town, but if the restaurant is any guide, things are looking up there. It is a "brew pub" that makes its own beer and for $8 you can get five glasses of beer, each one a different kind made there in the back room. The food is very solid--real fries, local ingredients, and a very enthusiastic wait staff. Plus, apparently, live music on the weekend, although we were there on a weekday.

Definitely worth a trip from State College if not from further away.

    1. Took an early Sunday morning cycle ride to Elk Creek. Enjoyed a very nice Stout with a quiche and side salad special. Visited with a local at the bar who fronts a band that
plays at Elk Creek on a regular occassion. Nice ambiance, excellant food and beer. Stopped at the Bullfrog Brewery in Williamsport on the 145 mile loop to catch a bit of their Jazz Brunch and a coffee stout. A perfect trifecta Sunday ride would be the Selinsgrove Brewrey, Elk Creek, and then the Bullfrog with moderation of alcohol being the rule of the day.

I can also recommend Elk Creek. We staying in Millheim overnight and enjoyed a dinner at the Cafe. A jazz band played that evening and added to the overall experience. The food and beer were very good with descriptions on where most of the items were produced with an accent on local fare and sustainable practices. The rural feel of Millheim is very pleasant with Amish buggies clopping through town and fine trout streams nearby.

There is also apparently a micro brewery in Millmont, which is off of Route 45 in Union County near at Hartleton. Has anyone been?

The Copper Kettle Brewery is a small brewery and not a brew pub. I sampled their beers at the festival held in Selinsgrove in July. Their website states where their beer is available in the Lewisburg area. When I am down that way again I plan to pick up a case of their beer which I thoroughly enjoyed.
