The strangest NYC request I've gotten

An old friend from college is visiting next weekend for a Yankees game and is staying near Penn Station - his request is for a great place to get omelets?

Normally I'd do a search and find the answer from old posts but omelets? Really? I mean, I don't have anything against omelets but that just seems like such a random request when coming to NY - do they not have good omelets in LA? Or maybe he just really looooooooves omelets.

Anyway - any help would be appreciated very much. Know of a fabulous omelet in midtown?

I went to Artisinal last week for Brunch and definitely they have top notch omelettes. Also, the Tasting Room is good as well.

I don't think it's strange - I love an omelette for lunch, especially a seafood one. Generally French restaurants do them the best, they really seem to understand them, they treat their omelette pans with great reverence and never overdo the eggs.

Norma's is going to be good, but with a premium. For something a little more reasonable, I'm a big fan of the omelets at good: fluffy, generously-filled and ample enough to sustain you for a morning of touring.

There used to be a place on the upper East side with a French name (if my memory is correct it was named after tyhe female owner - Madam something or other) that specialized in omlets. It was quite well known. All I rememberis that it was upstairs. I have no idea if it is still around. If so, that would be just what your friend is looking for.

Madame Romaine de Lyon, on E. 61 St. I think it's long gone though.

What about Norma's at the parker meridien hotel? They have a large selection of omelets and other breakfasts foods and they take reservations!
