where to find cheese bread?

  • 3

i am moving to boston this summer and looking for a place that sells dreamy cheese bread. i am talking about a sourdough bread with yummy chunks of asiago (or other type of cheese) and potentially jalapeños. the only place that i am finding on my internet searches is panera:(

any leads would be greatly appreciated!

  1. When Pigs Fly (Davis Square, Somerville, and by the time you move here, Coolidge Corner, Brookline) has some cheese breads in their rotation.

    1. While I can't think of a place that offers what you're looking for, you might enjoy searching out pão de queijo, which are Brazilian, individual chewy cheese puffs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheese_bun

I haven't sampled a wide variety but I've really enjoyed the ones from Bread and Co. in Everett.

I spoke too soon- I am fairly sure I have seen Cheese breads like you describe at Martha's Bread Basket in Danvers. It's a bit of a drive from Boston though, maybe 25 minutes, up Route 1. It's a wonderful bakery though, worth the trip. Call first though, because they bake breads on a rotating schedule so you'd want to be sure that's one they're baking the day you go.

If you're desperate, Au Bon Pain makes an Asiago bagel that's not bad. And Brueggers has a bagel with cheese and jalapeño. Both are chains, in the Panera vein.
