Does anyone have recommendations for a nice Sunday lunch in San Telmo? We will be going to the antique market in the morning and then to Cafeteria Ideal in the afternoon to watch tango.

BTW, it's: Confiteria La Ideal (not cafeteria)...

All of the places in San Telmo get rather slammed with the tourist crowds on Sunday... I happen to like a little, often more quiet than others, called Mitico Sur.. they serve the foods of the patagonian region... and you can have and try Yerba Mate if you'd like to try it -- served in the traditional gourd.

Mitico Sur, San Lorenzo 389, San Telmo, Tel: 4362-4750.

A beautiful platter of rolled venison and cheese, patagonian berries, garlic cream cheese, and dipping strips of bread will set you back around US $5.

I second karma's recommendation for Mitico Sur, one of my favorite little spots for a casual lunch or late afternoon snack in San Telmo. If you want something really old-style traditional buenos aires, there are a couple of spots worth checking out - one is called Pedro Telmo (not to be confused with Sr. Telmo the pizza joint), Bolivar 962, the other is Manolo at Bolivar 1299. If you're looking for something that's more of a modern twist on local fare, check out La Cueva Negra, Bolivar 860... hmmm, strange they're all along the same strip...
