A friend and I are going to out to lunch tomorrow w/our preschoolers (2 total)...we're not afraid to take them places beyond McD's if it's "acceptable" (aka, they have a kids menu and/or accomdate children). Thinking Brookside to downtown-areas or anywhere in between.

  1. The Mixx does kids items- pb&j, mac and cheese. That's all I can remember.

    1. We took our kids to Aixois (Crestwood shops) for lunch last week for their mom's birthday. Food was decent, not great, but I love their kids menu, which features escargots, a terrific cheese and fruit plate, roast chicken, grilled salmon, and more.

It might be worth a shot. Way better than McDonald's.

Yes, much better than McD's for sure. I'm thinking You Say Tomato. We have taken them to La Cucina di Mamma in Brookside a few weeks ago - delish. And Souperman, also quite good.

I've been thinking about checking out Aixois -- and now it's definitely on my list. My 11-year-old usually turns her nose up at the kid's menu (a young chowhound). Wonder what she'll say when she sees escargot on the menu?

Or take her to Houston's where she can order a petite filet off the kids menu! My 9 year old has discovered it, unfortunately...

That's funny....my 6 year old had a petite filet off a children's menu while on vacation in North Carolina and now thinks she should have one wherever and whenever we go out to eat.

where in NC? we'll be heading there this summer for vacation and I could satisfy my daughter's filet craving!

Outer Banks - Nag's Head area.

        2. Pizzabella- 18th / Baltimore
Fritzs Hamburgers in KCK- The food is delivered on a train!
chefBurger- they have burgers and hotdogs
La Cuccina in brookside (then you can visit The Reading Reptile afterwords)
Happy Gillis Cafe in Columbus Park

          1. Have you considered The Crayola Cafe at Crown Center? I am not sure how good the food is but I bet the kiddies will love you for it anyway.

We ended up at You Say Tomato and it was great. Very neat place!

            2. Would everyone recommend breakfast or lunch at You Say Tomato for a first experience? Wondered if they did one better than the other?

We went for the first time last Sunday after church for not quite either. Our order consisted of cheese grits, a ham and cheese croissant, a cinammon roll, and a slice of rhubarb pie with homemade ice cream.

The food was all terrific, and the place is simply charming. We may be returning tomorrow.

I can't answer your question for sure, but I would be surprised if you could miss either way.

I enjoyed both- but I suggest, do lunch first.
