Upper East/Midtown East Pastry?

little tater Apr 23, 2008 09:07 AM

Dad's birthday is today & I want to get him a light cake, pie or tart. Something not too sweet & fairly high quality...any suggestions?

I'm trying to stay within Midtown east or UES so I save on time. The only place I can think of that would be similar to what I'm looking for is Claude's in the Village, but it's way out of my way...

Thanks in advance!

Well, there's William J. Greenburg -- pricey, but good.

Or there's Two Little Red Hens.

The tarts at Citarella are quite nice, and Dean & Deluca on Madison also has a good selection. Oh - and Grace's Marketplace on Third Avenue, Lady Mendl's off Madison ....

the best strudel this side of the Atlantic

ELI'S at 80th and 3rd has delicious tea cakes, etc.
but it is Passover so I have no idea what they are baking this week.

Thanks to both of you - I'm going to have to try this strudel.

I stopped in a couple of weekends ago and had the poppyseed, which was still warm and crispy from the oven. I can't speak to the other fillings, but the poppyseed was great.
