A nice plate of curry goat on top of a pile of rice & peas with some fried plantains off to the side! One of my favorite meals in the world! I'm slowly working my way through all the Caribbean places around my home neighborhood (Prospect Heights/Park Slope), which has a lot of offerings, and my work neighborhood (Gramercy/Flatiron), which, now that Golden Krust on 23rd has closed, has very little, with the exceptions of some decent (and big) roti from an otherwise 'regular' looking deli on 5th or 6th Ave., though I try to avoid it because I'm not into portable food with a ton of bones, and Negril, which I've yet to try because it sounds like it takes too long for an hour's lunch.

So the only places where I've had curry goat so far are Christie's on Flatbush Ave. in Brooklyn, Buff Patty on Myrtle Ave., also in Brooklyn, and the ubiquitous Golden Krust. I liked it at all three places, but I have to say that Buff Patty's, despite what seems to be a mandatory 1+ hour delivery time even they're so close that they're in walking distance and they deliver by car, was by far the best. I plan on calling Brawta, Islands and Stir It Up pretty soon for some takeout, but beyond those three, Negril in the city, and a few other places I can't think of right now (mostly in the Bronx), I'm at a loss. I'd especially like some suggestions for the Flatbush area and parts east of Prospect Park here in Brooklyn.

So, what do you think? It's not the most popular dish in the world and, from what I've seen, does not yield too much in the way of variations, but it is one of my favorites and I'm sure some others' too!

negril is aight; so so. very randomly they serve roti on fridays at the hudson square deli which is usually a typical korean salad bar buffet at the corner of canal st. and hudson st. but then they discontinued having the roti delivered (some lady in BK) although the guyanese staff still prepare various fillings and serve it over rice and peas. chicken curry is good, beef curry is good, the goat is good is excellent and they also have shrimp. the dal (chickpeas in this case) are good as well. actually I think all the curries are boneless and when it is served in a roti (although I used to just get the roti on the side), it is an enormous gutbomb and more than filling. if you're gonna check it out, I'd call ahead though, just to make sure they have it (only on fridays, at least a few months ago).

I am interested in knowing what you find midtown, other than Negril. There was one carib place on 14th between 2nd and 3rd ? Forget it's name...

Spicy Mina serves amazing goat curry. She somehow gets rid of all the usual gristle and bone fragments, and the meat is tender and flavorful.

I've only had Curried Goat at two places, so I am definitely far from an expert, but if you're ever going to a Yankee game, you should stop by The Feeding Tree and have their Goat there. It's quite good.

Funny you should mention...just had 2 heaping platefuls of goat curry atop white rice the other night, at Indian Taj on 74th Street, block and a half away from the subway station, Jackson Heights. I go out of my way to eat it here. It's not spectacular, just lots of it, all you can eat, for like $11.50 and very satisfying...
