Tokyo Express opinions?

I'm asking about the Sacramento St (FiDi) location of this local chain, with branches also on Spear and in Stonestown. A colleague picked up some excellent looking vegetable sushi. I'm interested in fish sushi as well as cooked dishes. Might this place be the answer to my grumblings about the lack of everyday-priced, good-or-better sushi in the downtown area?

  1. When I worked in the FiDi my co-workers liked to go there for cheap sushi. The chicken teriyaki was terrible, the beef teriyaki was below average, and the salmon teriyaki was okay. I wish I ate sushi back then...

I had the sushi at the Spear St location last week, and it was as described. With unfriendly service, not especially clean tables, and big signs on the table reminding you to tip.

You'd do better at Delica in the Ferry Building.

This is my standard place for mediocre to good sushi in the downtown/FiDi area. Never had a bad experience, but for the price and the convenience, I think it fits the bill.

Definitely better than the likes of Sushi Bune or Sushi Boat on the other side of Market St.

    2. I've gotten take out at the Stonestown and Sacto St stores. Granted I haven't tried the sushi but it looks like a lot of people go here for lunch. I liked their tonkatsu bento box. A lot of bang for your buck.

I vaguely recall eating at the Spear St location. They are not as good as Stonestown's and Sacto St's. Service was friendly and food was good (you get a lot!).

      1. I haven't been to the Sacramento St. location for probably over a year, but generally found the sushi to be not particularly great, but not objectionable. The fish on the nigiri was usually sliced pretty thin.

The cooked dishes are pretty generic.
