Appleton Bakery

Anyone frequent the Appleton bakery? Looks like a decent place for a sandwich and it's also an easy walk from Back Bay station.

Do they make their own bread for the sandwiches or are they a cake and dessert type bakery? Anyone had the Curry Chicken Salad?

  1. It's been a while since I worked in the city and was a regular there but assuming it hasn't changed much its a great place for a soup or sandwich. I don't have specifics such as whether they bake their own bread but it always seemed to be high quality fresh bread. The Curry Chicken Salad was one of my regular sandwiches, it is very good and an excellent summer time sandwich I think. From what I recall it can get a little crowded with the limited seating so go early or plan to take it to go and sit outside on a nice day. Let us know what you think.

    1. It has very good sandwiches and prepared sides, as well as good pastry (they go fast) and gelato.

I appreciate their range of prepared veggie sides--variety of salads, roasted asparagus, etc.--and excellent soups. A friend raves about the squash soup--an occasional special on Thursdays, I think. I had a nice piece of salmon the other day with a side of cucumber salad.

Do you know if they make their own bread?

They make their own desserts, but I'm not sure about the bread. I can check soon....

I stopped in today and picked up an Empire. Decent sandwich. Sadly, they don't have horseradish for the roast beef.

Also, the only "fresh" bread they had were some baguettes. The guy working there said they came from Pigalle.

        2. Oh how I love their chocolate cupcakes w/ white frosting. :-)
