Rabbit?

I'm looking for a source of fresh rabbit.

Whole Foods says they can special order it...but someone must carry it. I looked at 99 Ranch Market and no dice.

How about one of the live poultry places? Is there one that you would recommend?

FWIW.... the quality at Gelson's, Bristol and Whole Foods will not be up to par compared to the Ethnic places. I have been suckered into Quail, Squab, Rabbit, Pheasant etc., from the "gourmet super markets" (geez that is an oxymoron!).... before... and while I know that some reputable restaurants make do with similar frozen products... I haven't had luck with them myself.

Bristol Farms seems to carry it regularly but whole, not cut up. I'm in search of a more convenient (to me) place in Orange County to buy it.

the butcher will cut it up if you ask.

Rancho Meat Market in Lincoln Heights.... they carry it occassionally... but will special order it if you are buying in qty....I think I know the purveyor (he is based in Whittier along the San Gabriel River and has a very popular Goat dairy farm where people show up at 6AM to have fresh milk on the spot)... he doesn't do any retail business but provides Goats, Goat milk & rabbits to East L.A. birrieras & wedding caterers.

Anyway... I bet $20... Rancho will have the best price.

Farmers Market (3rd & Fairfax) - Lots of the butcher stalls there sell fresh rabbit. I just bought some this past weekend to make a paella!

Sometimes Gelson's has it in back, if you ask the butcher. Otherwise, I have only been able to order it.
