  1. Is this the La Oaxaquena truck? I'm with you if it is. They make great tacos al pastor, carne asada, and clayudas, although they do suffer from inconsistency. I like the availability of oaxacan-style meats and the immediacy of the taco truck experience.

If it's another truck then let me know because I'd love to try something new.

In the interest of good karma, there is also a wonderful truck that parks on the north side of Stoner Park in West LA that serves some excellent al pastor. They also serve delicious atole that might just make you forget about hot chocolate for awhile.

I think Potofood is referring to the daytime truck that parks on Rose near 4th. In addition to their great carnitas, they have very good carne asada too.

La Oaxaquena is my all-time favorite truck. Their clayudas and memelas are excellent.

I have a vague notion of eating at a truck right near there. It seemed like it might have been associated with La Playita. I'll enjoy checking that out soon.

Right on. I'm a huge fan of how La Oaxaquena sauces the tacos with a hit of salsa roja and a hit of avocado salsa.

Have you tried the clayudas as El Super Taco on Santa Monica and Brockton? Totally different (they call them dobladitas) but very good. A clayuda, folded in half and then chargrilled. Worth a shot, I say.

That sounds great! I've never eaten at El Super Taco since I can never get past Monte Alban but I'll give it a shot.

          Where does La Oaxaquena park?

          1. re: Wolfgang

On Lincoln, just south of Rose. They are there after 6 PM. At least they used to be.

It's been a few months since I've been really happy with El Super Taco and there is a truck on the east side of the Vons lot on Santa Monica that very occasionally serves al pastor from an electric spit.

              Thanks.

      2. You must be referring to La Isla Bonita at Rose & 4th. Taco truck perfection that place is.

Next time, don't limit yourself to tacos OR ceviche, do both! Heck, a standard lunch there for me is one or two ceviche tostadas and three tacos.

That's WAS the truck I hit up so long ago. Any ideas on if they are associated with La Playita?

          1. re: Frommtron

I'm sure there's no connection. Having eaten at both on the same day several times, the food is so different that there's no way.

I used to like La Playita but feel it's gone downhill over the last few years. Ever since they changed their menu sign ...

              Thanks!

        2. The truck on Rose & 4th is the best. i have been eating there for years and the name of the owner is Tony.

          Keep on truckin..

I went there recently twice and it was gone. Any ideas on how to find them? What happened?

            1. re: epop

They are there for lunchtime. What time and day did you go? I ususally go on a Friday afternoon.

              1. re: Ogawak

twice for lunch, during the week. No trace.

                1. re: epop

They are not there on Thursdays. I'm on my way right now for a chorizo quesadilla...No association with La Playita, as the quality of their campechanas shows.

                  1. re: luhkee

Maybe that was the issue. I can't remember what day I went. But I came home and read that Venice has been contemplating a ban on taco trucks parked in one location. That's what concerned me even more.

          2. It is in Rose and 4th. And there during lunch usually. They use these delicious white beans in their standard tacos...a little twist and delicious.

            1. La Isla Bonita is taco EXCELLENCE. we eat here at least 3 times a week, minimum. Pastor-great, carnitas-amazing, chicharon-crunchy melty goodness. the lengua is so tender it almost melts. ceviche tostada is better than my peruvian friend's homemade and $2. shrimp tacos are $2.50.
they are there til 4-5 most days, and most weekends a bit later, though some sundays we can't find them. heard around the neighborhood he'll do caterings for the right price, so that may be the reason for the odd hours.
that said, there is already a big line most times, so let's just keep this our little secret, okay?
