Could you please suggest somewhere downtown where the girls and I can enjoy a casual night out chatting over very good guacamole & margaritas.

Thanks & Cheers

Barrio Chino, Agave, Los Dos Molinos, Rosa Mex, Los Dados

      www.mercaditony.com Mercadito
      www.esperantony.com Esperanto

Two of my favorites. Two blocks and an avenue away from each other.
If one's too crowded, go to the other.

Esperanto has live music at night, so it might not be the best place for a quiet conversation.

Mercadito is quieter, but a bit tighter with seating.

Both places offer amazing food (some authentic, some fusion), and margarita variations up the wazoo.

Not sure why nobody has mentioned the downtown goliath of guacamole-margarita places: Dos Caminos Soho.

PS: have to disagree regarding Dos Molinos--too loud and the food was gut-wrenching.

IMO, mercadito grove on 7th ave. south blows dos caminos, agave and rosa mexicano away! they have terrific guacamole and margaritas, not to mention the fish tacos...

Yeah, I love the margaritas at Mercadito. They're outstanding, and the outdoor seating is a plus. Agave's margaritas, I think, are syrupy and gross. I simply don't get what anyone finds in it. I'd rather go down the street to La Palapa.
