Papou's Greek Kitchen and Taverna -- Lakewood

Anyone know anything about this place? How about other decent places to eat in the Lakewood area?

  1. It's better to stick to the breakfast nourriture at this location (Legal Grounds) then to spend your time and calories on the dinner food. Much less than stellar and acceptable Greek fare. It's a shame to say b/c I am a fan of greek food and a bigger fan of East Dallas eateries. Due to my dining experiences I will not return. This statement has nothing to due w/ the location (for it is proximate), the service (for it is friendly and local), and everthing to due w/ the quality of cuisine (for it is pre-packaged and frozen (in my opinion)). Papou's claims to be the combined recipes of two Greek families - if this is true, their respective Gia Gias would be turning over in their graves.

Thanks for that warning. What about places in that same area that you would recommend? We're going to a concert at Lakewood Theater and need a quick, close and early dinner.

Matt's is right next to the Lakewood Theater and has pretty good Mexican food. Sit on the patio and have a margarita!

There are loads of options right around there.

          Alligator Cafe
          Calle Doce
Kitchen 1924 (kick arse, but it might not fit the 'quick' part)

I've heard the Cock & The Bull has excellent food.

I went to Cock & Bull for the first time the other night. Before my eyes had adjusted to the low light, all I could think of was how smokey it smelled. I had a decent Ruben. But, I really would rather just drink than eat in a place that smells like an ashtray.

      2. These are located in the same shopping center as the Lakewood Theatre:
        Kitchen 1924
        Angelos Italian

Greenville Ave. is not too far either. On Greenville, I would recommend,
        The Grape
        St. Martins
