I'm trying to decide between the Cuisinart Stand Mixer and the Kitchen-Aid Stand Mixer, I was wondering what the chowhounders had to say about either product.

thanks for the help guys.

  1. I just bought the KitchenAid stand mixer although I haven't used it yet. It was on sale at Williams-Sonoma the Pro 600 because a new model is coming out, the Pro 610. It was a very good buy. I was impressed that all the attachments from the original model wa-a-ay back will still fit all the new models and vice versa.

    1. I have a KA, and it has served me well.. seems to have earned the triend-and-true award.. I've read good reviews of the Cuisinart, through, and they seem to have bridged the gap pretty well in their latest incarnation.

Both seem to be kitchen "monuments"- you'd have to "try" to break them.

      1. I have had the KA 5 quart for about 15 years now, and wouldn't have anything else. I have made countless loaves of bread, etc etc etc and it is still going strong.
Also, I have been disappointed in the quality of Cuisinart electrics lately, they seem to be one of many companies (Henckels/Calphalon cough cough) living off their past reputations.

        1. re: anglematic

My husband came with a KA stand mixer when we married almost 22 years ago, but when I saw a friend of mine with an Elecrolux Assistent (correct spelling!), I wanted one. Conveniently, the KA motor died just before Xmas and the EAssistent was under the tree. What a great piece of equipment. It scrapes the bowl as it mixes and you can look inside as you add ingredients. It is brilliant for bread baking, and I have the whisk attachment for cakes and pies. My husband bought the grinder attachment, and it revolutionized his sausage making -- it was so efficient and quick. I plan to have the KA repaired for old-time sake, and for things that requite creaming butter, which I feel it does better, but I love, love, love my Assistent!

        2. I also have a KA that I swear by; 600 watts, 6 qt in black. And I believe the KA was the top rated by ATK last year (although they didn't rate the cuisinart). BUT, I saw the new cuisinsart 1000 watt (somewhere on tv) recently. It seems to have a food processer that can attach to the top and use the motor. I would definitely like to put it through its paces. That being said, I would be very surprised if you got the KA and were unhappy with it.
