summertime is approaching and one of my favorite ways to relax is with a stiff rum drink served in a hollowed-out pineapple or coconut, preferably at a hotel pool bar, a restaurant/bar with a beach view, or at least somewhere with a nice outdoor patio. i've yet to find a place in l.a.. anyone have any ideas? i'm in silverlake, so somewhere within a reasonable drive would be preferable.

I kinda think Duke's in Malibu would do something like that.

I've been to Bahooka. Great decor and they do have tropical drinks, but no drinks in pineapples or coconuts. I've been to Duke's as well and haven't seen drinks in coconuts or pineapples, but will check next time I am there. Does anyone have a definite sighting? These have to be somewhere in town!

Roy's Hawaiian in downtown L.A. serves a pineapple coconut martini but not in a hollowed-out pineapple.

Here are a couple of links to older threads discussing tiki bars and tropical drinks. Be sure to note the dates on the posts and call first--some of the referenced places may be no more.

Also, check out the menu for the poolside "Trader Vic's Lounge" that now exists at the Beverly Hilton in lieu of the dearly departed original. Plenty of exotic drinkware!

i am familiar with the local tiki bars and have frequented the tiki ti, trader vics lounge, etc. i love their drinks, but the problem is that they don't serve drinks in fresh pineapples or coconuts. that's really what i'm looking for here.

You might try Bahooka's on Rosemead Blvd, in Rosemead.
