Rhubarb in SD county?

maestra Apr 21, 2008 11:10 AM

I realized the other day that I haven't had rhubarb since I moved to CA 7 years ago, and suddenly I'm craving it. I've never noticed it at grocery stores or farmers' markets, but there must be some around.
When it is available here? Where might I find it?

It's available now. I saw a few stalks at the Hillcrest farmers market Sunday before last. Windmill Farms in Del Cerro has had it for the last month.

I get it at Henry's every year- haven't looked recently though.

I shop at Sprouts in San Marcos and they had it last week next to the strawberries.

I saw some at OB people's co-op on the weekend. It was a little rough looking, but I'm sure they could tell you when they were expecting to get fresh stuff.

Vons in Santee has it $3.99/lb. I would imagine other Vons locations also have it.

            Henry's has it for $3.79/lb.

I bought some this weekend at Major Market. I made basic compote, but added lemongrass as suggested by a chow recipe. Craving satisfied.
