Prison Brews - JeffCity MO
We tried out this new little microbrewery that advertises itself as the first brewery in this little town since Prohibition.
It was very busy when we got there. Apparently there was a group that had booked their downstairs room ... service was harried and spotty. The sample beers looked very good (and I had a report later in the week that indicated that the IPA is good), but I was on a lunch hour and didn't indulge.
My daughter enjoyed her chicken sandwich (grilled, with a nice roll) with fries. Hubby had the reuben - very pretty with marbled rye and a decent helping of meat. I opted for the mushroom swiss burger and wasn't impressed. The slaw on the side was only ok.
Before we placed our orders, our server told us that they were already out of the sweet potato fries and the portabello mushrooms. Both my daughter and I had intended to order both - so you know how that is. You have to completely rethink your lunch. The portabello offerings include a veggie sandwich, a salad, and I believe a wood-oven pizza.
The pizzas looked quite good, but I wasn't sure they could produce one in time for me to get back to the office, so I skipped that. Now I'm sorry I did! Well, there's always next time.
They apparently have pool tables downstairs and bocce courts outside, but I didn't see them on this visit. Maybe another time.
After they get their opening-day jitters worked out, this could be a promising place for lunch and dinner. I have high hopes, but so far, my jury is out.
