south african grocery/food

I am looking to purchase south african spices and food...does anyone know where in Toronto.. ? Someone mentioned Baxters on Sheppard...they have since gone out of busines ? thanks for any help

I would recommend Memories of Africa. They sell everything you're looking for. Biltong, spices, pops, chocolates and much more. The service is very friendly and you'll feel right at home! They have a website too, you can check them out at http://www.memoriesofafrica.net/

I came across Memories of Africa last week on one of rare driving forays. Interesting store. Bought some frozen Farmer's Sausage (Boerwoerse?), and some peach chutney, both good. For anyone looking to try SA food, its a good starting point, I reckon. I may go back and pick up some Ostrich Jerky! Others have posted the link, so you can check out their selection on-line.

I highly recommend Sedo Snax. Neil is your man...if there is anything you need from SA, he can get it! Not sure about the Memories of Africa people. Not that it is a requirement, but they aren't from SA? I think it is franchise or something? Baxters was garbage anyway, always had old stock!

Hey, FBTO! Do you know whether Sedo Snax carries Nali's Piri Piri Sauce? (Ok, it's from Malawi, but I was able to get it in RSA.) I can't find it anywhere, and Baxter's didn't carry it.

I wouldn't swear to this, but I think that the people who ran Baxter's were a Greek(?) family from RSA.

I actually think he might have it. Give him a call to confirm. If he doesn't, he can get it. He special orders stuff from SA constantly.

I don't think the Baxter people and Memeries people are the same one?

I've not been but from the maps on 411 and chow placelink, it looks like it's west of Vic Park, closer to Bermondsey.
