south african grocery/food
I am looking to purchase south african spices and food...does anyone know where in Toronto.. ? Someone mentioned Baxters on Sheppard...they have since gone out of busines ? thanks for any help
Hiya, I found this:
7700 Bathurst Street, Unit #6
"Located in Toronto, Canada, we are ex South Africans who help other ex South Africans who have a craving for their favourite South African foods fulfill their cravings."
2136 Speers Road,Oakville,ON (Speers Road just west of 3rd Line
"We offer a full line of South African groceries (i.e. Mrs. Ball Chutney, Rusks, homemade pickled fish, samoosa's, koeksisters, milktarts and even gem squashes (seasonally)."
Oh, and this:
60 Green Ln,, Thornhill ON L3T7P5
I highly recommend Sedo Snax. Neil is your man...if there is anything you need from SA, he can get it! Not sure about the Memories of Africa people. Not that it is a requirement, but they aren't from SA? I think it is franchise or something? Baxters was garbage anyway, always had old stock!
Hey, FBTO! Do you know whether Sedo Snax carries Nali's Piri Piri Sauce? (Ok, it's from Malawi, but I was able to get it in RSA.) I can't find it anywhere, and Baxter's didn't carry it.
I wouldn't swear to this, but I think that the people who ran Baxter's were a Greek(?) family from RSA.

I came across Memories of Africa last week on one of rare driving forays. Interesting store. Bought some frozen Farmer's Sausage (Boerwoerse?), and some peach chutney, both good. For anyone looking to try SA food, its a good starting point, I reckon. I may go back and pick up some Ostrich Jerky! Others have posted the link, so you can check out their selection on-line.
