Mercat a la Planxa - review

This place is great. I went last night with my wife and another couple. We had an 8:30pm reservation. We got there at 8pm and had a drink at the bar. The room is very nice - it's two levels and very open. We sat down right at 8:30pm.

We ordered a bunch of things and shared. The server said they would space out the dishes, which they did by bringing one or two at a time. Everything was great. Simple but very flavorful. We ate:

Assorted olives
Fried Peppers, Salbitxada & Sea Salt
Lobster Croquettes
Garlic Shrimp
Morel Mushroom Bomba Rice, Green Asparagus, Lemon Oil
Flatbread with Shrimp, Chorizo & Garbanzo Bean Purée
Braised Rabbit Agnolotti, Rosemary, Truffle-Chestnut Purée, Brandied Cherries
Chocolate cake and sorbet

We had a very nice Rioja for $60. The wine list looked very good and was very reasonably priced with bottles starting out under $40.

The food, atmosphere and service was just great. I highly recommend.

  1. Mercat a la Planxa is fabulous! It looks like they've changed the menu slightly since I was there on April 10th. I definitely would have ordered the rice with morel mushrooms if it had been available.

And I agree about the wine list - it's really interesting. I'm a Spanish wine fan, and I loved that there were wines I wasn't familiar with. (I especially liked the Xarmant Txakolina - I've had Txacoli, but not this delicious one.)

Mercat was top on my list of places to try after reading this thread:

My only gripe is that the menu is large enough that it's REALLY hard to decide what to order. But we loved what we had. I reported on what I ate in this thread:

I need to return to Chicago so I can eat here again.
