Where should we eat? Not looking for fine dining. Fun, quirky and good will do. Thanks

The Steer & Stein in Palmdale is a fun little spot. The food is good (not great) but it is really cheap...and you can get a big gulp size draft beer that is almost too heavy to lift. Prepare yourself for some good people watching...two words: tattooed and toothless. Seriously, try it for a fun evening.

I know two genuinely fantastic places in Palmdale.

The Pines Cafe is a greasy spoon diner off the Pearblossom Highway that serves one of the best chicken-fried steaks in the state. This is a great breakfast spot, and not bad for lunch as well. (I've been known to drive here from Los Angeles just for their cfs.)

If you like southern style food, and seafood in particular, another really good choice would be the Blue Marlin West. Wonderful clam chowder, crab cakes, fried seafood, and other southern fare. If this place were in LA, it would have a line out the door 24/7.

Hope this helps. Looks like the poppies are amazing this year: http://www.desertusa.com/wildflo/ca.html .
