Beer and Food Pairings on Top Chef

This had such potential on the last episode with a competition that revolved on pairing beer and dishes as well as incorporating the beer as an ingredient. The selection of beers was horrid- they had 16, and all were in the budweiser co. family of products.

I guess its better than nothing, but being in Chicago, they could have used Three Floyds, Goose Island, etc.. and done so so much for the craft beer industry.

I'm glad I didn't see that. I would have thrown something at my TV.

Agreed. I saw the irony in that I was drinking two good craft beers during the show.

      Dogfish Palo Santo Marron
      Troegs Nugget Nectar

I'm sure it's like everything else on that show- purely product placement.

Funny how I notice it less since I started watching a year ago.

Have to say the mussels and Hoegaarden was a pairing that popped into my head the minute that was revealed as the cloudy weizen. Other than that, it was kind of a crapshoot.

The Hoegaarden was definitely the best of the bunch. The rest was so obviously product placement. I cannot imagine a chef choosing Amber Bock for anything.

What about the Michelob Ultra? Apparently it wasn't the regular Atkins-diet carbonated grain water but the Lime Cactus and the Pomegranate Raspberry flavors that two of the chefs chose.

It was amusing that the winner of the Quickfire challenge, Jen, who chose Landshark Lager, introduced her beer by using the term "island beer", probably just repeating what she read on the label. Is that supposed to meaningfully convey some type of flavor profile other than very little?

Yah, there was a discussiong -- and general denunciation -- about this on the TC board.
