Chinese in Scottsdale

Hi ... I'm a SF bay area hound, in phx for about 3 wks .... I need a break from the great mexican and surprisingly Italian food down here -- looking for a good chinese lunch spot in the Scottsdale area ... anything works ... mandarin, szechwan, hakka, hunan ... whatever. Any recs? Much appreciated ...

Shanghai Palace on Thomas Road used to have a separate Chinese menu that was quite good. Anything else you order is at your own risk.

Our favorite is the Shanghai Club in the Pima Crossing which is located to the west of Route 101 at Shea as well as George and Sons which is located in another strip mall on the southwest corner of Frank Lloyd Wright and Via Linda.

At least for Shanghai Club, you're better off at Panda Express.

1/2 Chinese, born & raised in Scottsdale & the whole family feels that if you're looking for good Chinese, you're best off driving a bit down toward Mesa/Chandler. We like Tao Garden & Best Hong Kong for dinner. China King & C-Fu can be good too. We go to those two for dim sum.

For Chinese food, we're always heading down the 101 & turning east.

I do want to try Nee House though. And in a different location, we often did Jade Palace for work lunches. Wouldn't go there over the others if time wasn't an issue though.

ccl1111, You will love Nee House, it is on par w/ Best Hong Kong and Tao Garden. The table next to us the other evening had ordered the whole roast duck...it looked as good as what I have had @ Best Hong Kong! I agree w/ you about Jade Palace...while it is very good 'Americanized Chinese Food'...better is to be found in the Valley and worth the trip.

Nee House is probably the best choice for authentic Chinese cuisine in the Valley.

There's nothing in Scottsdale, except Americanized Chinese -- the best of the bunch can only be described as PF Chang's on steroids.

To clarify, I don't have anything against Americanized Chinese food either. Ate my share of free delivery lemon chicken in college. I also like Pei Wei. Just in a different category, for me, from authentic Chinese.

Very cool. We will have to check it out. We're in what is now termed South Scottsdale so it will still be a trek but that is the one new thing my 75 year old, China born, restaurant-for-his-whole-life pop will still go try. He actually worked with the owner from Tao Garden at the original Trader Vic's about 30 years ago. : )

Many thanks to all. Sounds like Nee House will be my first stop. SF Bay Area has lots of great (esp Asian) restaurants but nothing like two of my local favorites ... Kazmierz & Pasta Brione ... thanks .... doc
