Best Singapore Hawker Food

vb527 Apr 17, 2008 11:20 AM

We are heading over to Singapore for 2.5 days in August predominally to EAT! Planning on having small but frequent meals so we can fully appreciate great Singaporean hawker food. We will be staying near Marina Bay. Can anyone please recommend any great hawker places to eat around the area? We're hoping to get to places that are accessible by MRT and not too far to travel.
Our must eats for our trip are:
1. Hainan Chicken Rice
2. Satay
3. Fried Carrot Cake (Chai Tao Kway)
4. Kway Chap
5. Bakuteh
Are there any other dishes that we must eat while we're there that we can possibly fit in?

I'm surprised you don't have Laksa on your list! You have to try laksa. 328 Katong Laksa has the best IMO (http://gourmettravel.blogspot.com/200...

And there are little snacks you should try, like Roti Prata, Po Pia, oyster pancake, etc ...

and yeah everything is accessible by MRT anyway pretty much ... you should go to Clarke Quay ..

The nearest "authentic" hawker food place would be the Makansutra Gluttons Bay, next to the Esplanade Theatres by the Bay. It's only opened in the evenings, but you should be able to find all those hawker foods which you listed there.
