Brewing beer, curing meat, or making cheese? Tell us about it

Im working just south of there (alliance ave) and am looking for something besides Pizza Pizza and Mr Sub/Tim Hortons. I have a car, and an hour lunch so I would say something within a 10-15 minute drive.

I'm open for any suggestions.

I feel your pain, craigger. I worked at Eglinton and Scarlett, just west of you, for a bit, then at Eglinton and Keele for a bit. Each place has a couple of spots. North of Eg on Scarlett is a Balkan Deli that has excellent homemade boureka--meat, potato, cheese and spinach. They are $5 each, but worth it. It's on the west side or Scarlett.
There's also LaRose bakery on Larose Ave, a block or so north of Eg, west of Scarlett. It's got a nice hot table with very good Italian sandwiches etc.

Just east of Keele, is Tinnel's, a very goo Jamaican patty shop. A little further east, at Caledonia, is Babos Donerpoint. Fantastic Turkish food like shawarmas, lahmajun etc. Hope that helps a little.

Our maintenance yard is on Alliance and when I go there I drive along Eggs. I've noticed a number of Carribean places on Eggs near Keele. You may want to try that.
Other than that, I've heard a rumour that there is a good sandwich shop in the plaza where Uncle Timmy resides.

A colleague of mine swears by Messina Bakery on Scarlett at St Clair. I keep meaning to try it, but haven't got to it yet. There are some options on St Clair east of Runymede as well.

Messina is great - good hot counter - and they have those addictive portuguese custard pasteries....very similar feel to La rose bakery.
La Rose bakery is another recommendation. It is a right on scarlett, then a left on la rose ave., follow la rose until you hit a plaza on the right. La rose bakery is next to the convenience store. It has been in the neighbourhood for years. Good italian hot counter, as well as a large deli and lots of fresh bread - they will make you up any sandwich to your liking.

            1) P and M Rest. 1972 Weston Rd. N/ Lawrence For souvlaki, hot sandwiches, F + C, and a great breakfast. Small, family run and very friendly. http://yellowpages.ca/bus/Ontario/York/P-M-Restaurant/1181427.html?adid=01125710

            2) Caldense Bakery 2400 Eglinton W. for great Portuguese lunches. Try their "Green Soup" if you have never had it. http://yellowpages.ca/bus/Ontario/York/Caldense-Bakery-Pastries-Inc/273803.html?adid=00117000

Can also vouch for Messina and La Rose. If you go further west try Perugina's Bakery, 735 Renforth Dr. http://yellowpages.ca/bus/Ontario/Eto...
