Has anyone ever heard of Brand?

I tried a beer in Amsterdam called Brand and really, really liked it. I am pretty sure it is a Dutch beer, so I doubt I will be able to find it where I live, but I was just wondering if anyone else had tried it.

  1. Don't know where you live, but Brand was once a pretty common import in the US- their "pils" came in a white bottle (actually it was clear glass "painted" white) and was one of a number of "also ran" Dutch beers that tried to pick up the crumbs of the "Heineken" segment back when the US import market was dominated by Heineken, German and Canadian beers rather than Mexican light lagers. I don't really frequent that section of the beer aisles - didn't know it was no longer available. I have vague recollections that the brewery was gobbled up by one of the multi-national brewing conglomerates. (maybe Heineken itself?).

    1. Heineken owns Brand, and according to, there are at least ten varieties available somewhere, but there's nothing on Heinie's web site about it. You could check the best beer place near you to see if they can get it. There are a number of very tasty beers to be had in Amsterdam that are difficult or impossible to find here in the states. Good luck.
