Trying to decide between these restaurants

For my mother's 50th birthday I would love to take her some place special. She loves Italian food and I just took her to Babbo for her 25th anniversary. So now I was thinking either Del Posto, Felidia, Gotham Bar and Grill to name a few. What is this best among these three? I have heard many mixed reviews on Del Posto. There really is not that much about Felidia. Seems like most people love Gotham Bar and Grill. I am open to other suggestions but keep in mind I only would be considering high end restaurants. Cost is no object-thank you everyone!

I'm not sure Gotham is Italian. You might look into Alto, which I really enjoyed on my one visit in September (review posted). Haven't been to the others.

I know Gotham isn't Italian. Italian is not a requirement, however I was just saying she loves Italian food. I am just looking for great restaurants and I know Gotham is supposed to be amazing!

If that's the case, from your choices (with me not having been to Del Posto), I would pick Gotham. Love the food and atmosphere. It's high end without being stuffy like Babbo. I think you and your mom will have a great time there.

Awesome what do you recommend to order? I will also be there with my father and sister. I love steak obviously and have heard their steak is delicious.

Off the top of my head, I loved their rack of lamb, cooked perfectly and well seasoned. The potato puree that came with it was really rich, creamy and smooth. And the crudo dishes were excellent as well. I've never been disappointed there. It's just really good nonpretentious food.

I haven't had their steak, but judging from your screen name, I would give it a go.

Like I said I haven't been to Del Posto. I've heard some mixed reviews -- but it seems like a lot of reviews are negative because people found it expensive for what they got. So if you're willing to part with a lot of cash, it may be a good place.

Rereading my post, I can see how some people may interpret this the wrong way. Let me clarify -- Gotham Bar and Grill's atmosphere is similar to Babbo in that it's higher end but not stuffy.

You might also consider L'Impero, which has very good Italian food in a pretty room. I enjoyed my one meal there. I haven't been to the other places you listed with the exception of Gotham, which as MMRuth points out is not Italian. There are several threads about L'Impero; here are two:

Felidia is one of my favorite restaurants!

          Il Mulino is wonderful.

            I would suggest Lupa

            great food and excellent wine

Just wanted to add that while Lupa is great, it's not really a high end restaurant. I haven't been to Del Posto so I have nothing to say about that. Gotham Bar and Grill while delicious is not Italian (if that's really what you're looking for). Haven't been to Felidia in a while but I think it's a great special occasion restaurant for your mom's 50th. They specialize in Istrian food -- so it may be something new for her. Service was great (even saw Lidia who talked to us) and food was delicious, though not as exciting as Babbo.

I agree with the recommendations of L'Impero and Alto. I am a Babbo fan and I love these also. Gotham is not Italian. If Italian is not a requirement I would choose Picholine, Eleven Madison Park, or Cru over Gotham.

and i know this one isn't winning, but Del Posto really is pretty fantastic. There's a reason Michelin likes it. The atmosphere is definitely more stuffy, but I've had a couple of great meals there!
