The boyfriend got a bonus at work today, so were going to Old Town for dinner! Which should we go to: Restaurant Eve, Majestic, or Hank's?

I don't like weird food (No strange side dishes like cabbage for me, I'm a fan of salmon, sea bass, scallops, steak, etc.) but he likes anything unusual (snails, elk, etc.). We've been to Hanks and loved it. But, I want to try Eve, couple questions... would a Wednesday there be dull? is it extremely expensive? and can I get some 'normal' food? Thanks!

Eve can get pricey, but this is a special occassion and Eve is a special occassion spot. If you can get a reservation (or possibly sit at the bar) I would give it a shot. I would suggest eating in the bistro area, instead of the Tasting Room though. The bistro menu would probably better fit your taste. You can certainly get "normal" food there (if I remember correctly from when I went there was a chicken dish as well as seafood and short ribs etc) and your boyfriend will love some of their more "foodie" items.

At the very least you can stop by for one of Todd Thrasher's wonderful drinks before or after eating at the Majestic or Hank's.

The Majestic is clearly more moderate rang in price but also very good. You might be more happy here since they serve traditonally American cuisine but done very well. When I went I had a delicious grilled meatloaf dish and my friend got a great looking roast chicken. Don't miss out on their wonderful desserts.

I agree with Elyssa. Not to throw a monkey-wrench into the discussion, but I would also make Vermillion one of your choices ;-)

Thanks! I booked a table at the Bistro, I looked up a menu for it online and it looks like pretty standard, good dishes. Prices look reasonable too. If we love it, we'll go to the tasting room sometime. We've fallen in love with PX, so I'm sure an obsession with Eve isn't far off, haha.

So, dinner was very nice. The restaurant wasn't as pretty as I expected, it kind of had that fancy hotel restaurant feel, but it was nice enough. Great service; nice waitress, attentive, knowledgeable, and unpretentious. The best bread and (Irish) butter, crusty on the outside, super soft and warm inside. To drink, I got the black currant fizz which was great as are all their cocktails. We got the lobster and lemon ravioli to start which was fabulous, the sauce was amazingly flavorful and blended so well into the ravioli.
My main course was golden snapper which was too bland and served with the skin on (which is too weird for me, the picky one). It came with a lobster eggroll-looking pastry. I thought it would be like a puff pastry with lobster in it, but it was more a few small pieces of bland lobster with a ton of carrots, onions, green things, etc. The whole plate needed salt and more flavor. Boyfriend got sweetbreads (told you he was an adventurous eater) which he described as 'edible'. Maybe we just ordered the wrong things, but I don't think either of us were thrilled with our entrees. We each got a glass of wine, but the pours were so tiny, it was more like half a glass.
Boyfriend got lapsong sachong tea with lavender honey for dessert and I got the birthday cake. I expect it to be out-of-this-world a la Eve, but it tasted just regular birthday cake, nothing special about it, and so much icing that even I, a sugar freak, was overwhelmed.
Dinner started out perfectly with the drinks, bread, and appetizer. But, it went downhill from there. I'm not disappointed, we had a nice time and enjoyed dinner, but I had been hoping for a little more 'wow'.

I've had almost everything you've ordered and thought they tasted great (fish skin has a lot of flavor, and Eve's sweetbreads are some of the best I've ever had). I'd definitely give Eve another try, but maybe pass on the fish in favor of something a little less weird. Maybe a cocktail and a dish at the bar?

Sounds like Majestic would be more to your liking. I can't recall anything too unusual on their menu, and their pastas and seafood are solid.
