Well the date is almost upon jfood. His reservation at Babbo for the first time is 48 hours away.

Anything on the current menu that jfood just has to have?

TIA

  1. cool. the pig's feet (don't laugh) are wonderful. the salumi is house cured. share them both. the pasta is very good. order and share two dishes or more. skip the secondo and make reservations again on the way out. maybe sit at the bar. the wine selection is outstanding. place yourself in the hands of your server. treat the place like a decent place to hang out rather than a destination. it works for me.

The crispy pig's foot is awesome. I am now a believer after trying my friends. I thought the salumi came from Mario's dad, though, not in-house, as he's based out of Seattle?

      1. re: kathryn

both, actually. the house-cured stuff is made over at batali's "italian wine merchants" near irving place. dad's stuff is tagged "armandino's" and comes in from seattle.

skip the pork chop and/or veal chop? To each their own I guess...both chops are the best I had.

lol. i re-read my post and see your point. i wanted to get across the idea that loading up on the pastas on first visit is a good idea. i didn't intend to imply that the meat or fish dishes weren't up to snuff.

          i'll do better next time.

      3. Hi jfood,

          I'll handle the appetizer:
          Grilled octopus.

interestingly, the grilled octopus at felidia's (lidia bastianich) is even better. both are quite good.

          2. re: kobetobiko

            Very nice, thx K

You beat me too it, kobetobiko!

Note that the OP of that thread did end up going, and wrote it up on her blog:

            2. I really loved the Black Spaghetti with rock shrimp, spicy salami calabrese and green chiles. Be forewarned; it is quite spicy.

              1. Pork chop is massive and unbelievably juicy and delicious.
                Duck is amazing.
                Pumpkin Lune.
Great desserts- Almond Budino, Pistachio Semifreddo, Chocolate Hazelnut cake

The ribeye looked absolutely incredible from other tables. I regret not ordering that.

                1. pumpkin lune and Garganelli with “Funghi Trifolati”. Both amazing pastas!

                  1. Pigs foot milanese, lambs tongue, and beef cheek ravioli. I love the rack of lamb. Their pork tenderloin(special) pales in comparison but delicious as well. The entrees were excellent but the shining stars were the starters and pastas.

                    1. For dessert: the maple and mascarpone cheesecake was AMAZING! We ordered the beignets as well and they pale din comparison.

                      1. Jfood is preparing full review but wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions. A fullreview is in process but jfood ordered the goose liver ravioli, sweetbreads and gelatis. Fantastic meal.
