Doughboys at the El Rey?!

  • 6

Dear Doughboys,

Please keep quality control to its highest. I stopped going on 3rd, I'm iffy about the Hollywood one. Please please please make this one work its best. The neighborhood could use you, please don't fail us.

  1. Are you telling us that they're opening a new branch near the El Rey?

    1. Yes, I just stopped by. They're opening tomorrow (4/16) in that little space next to the theater with an abbreviated menu. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

      1. Has anyone been yet?

        1. Does anyone know what happened to the 3rd street location?

It seems to be turning into a clothes store or something. A colleague picked up a salad at the new one -- right now most of the food is pre-packaged salads and sandwiches but the manager said the menu "will increase 400%" in the coming days. He thought it was good but kind of pricey at $10 with no bread available at the time he was there.

Doughboys on 3rd had a huge following with lines out the door, particularly during lunch and brunchy weekend times, yet now they're out. Like Vito's pizza, we'll probably never know the real reasons for the closings of such popular places.

The El Ray is just down the road from where I work... I'll have to check them out for lunch today.

EDIT: Just came back from Doughboys. They hope to have a full menu in about a week-- right now they just have salads and sandwiches in a refrigerated case. Prices seem to have been jacked up ($10 for an ala carte takeaway sandwich/salad is awefully pricey, as is $7 for cake.... I believe it was $5 at the 3rd Street location). They plan on the El Ray location becoming a full service restaurant.

They said that they are moving their 3rd St. location a few blocks east (towards A.O.C.)
