Pickled chilies?

There was a recipe from Fuschia Dunlop's upcoming book on Hunan cuisinein Food and Wine. The recipe calls for pickled chilies. I went to a local oriental market and they had no idea what I was talking about. Can anyone help?

      Thank you for your help. Do you think that Food and Wine made a mistake in call them pickled chilie? Is there something else that are pickled? I guess it is possible that the magazine made a mistake and should have called them presered or salted chilies.
