  1. The new Ingles on Tunnel Road has a really good salad bar, but somehow I don't think that's the kind you meant.

    *wink*

I do get my lunch from that salad bar fairly often though.

      Which one on Tunnel Rd??

      1. re: mustardgirl

there is a brand new Ingles on Tunnel Road very close to downtown, near the tunnel.

Thanks Leahinsc, The address is 85 TunnelRd Innbruck Mall Correct?

          1. re: mustardgirl

no, that's the old store, but the new store is on the same side of the street, further up towards the tunnel to Asheville. The old store at that address is closed.

          2. re: leahinsc

Yep. It's where the old WalMart was. Right across the street from Cracker Barrel, Fiddlin' Pig, and Outback. To keep it food related, sort of.

            *grin*

The Ingeles across from the Biltmore Mall had a good looking salad bar in it the last time I was there. It is casual but they do have tables to sit down and eat. I was very impress how clean the store was or maybe it was just that I went in the first thing in the morning.

        3. "Salad Bar" Really???? EAST Buffet has has a good one from what I have heard.:ij

Man - I looked at the buffet/SB at East Buffet the other day out of curiosity (to see if they were actually in business) and it didn't look too yummy.

I think Asheville Pizza on Merrimon has a great salad bar as part of their lunch buffet - and good pizza too!

          2. The salad bar at Souper Sandwich (inside Haywood Park Hotel) used to be excellent, but I have to say, I haven't been there in several years, since they started closing on the weekend, which was the only time I was able to go. Other than that, I don't know of anywhere that has a good salad bar in town. I like the tossed salad from Asheville Pizza, so I would assume that their salad bar would be good, too. Ruby Tuesday used to have a good one, but I think that theirs has gone downhill in the past several years.

Souper Salad is no more - they closed down several months ago...

            2. Both Earth Fares have nice salad bars, also have many organic items if that appeals to you. But, atmosphere is a grocery store...Definitely not for date night! I just can't think of many others except at the discount steak sort of places. I've been surprised that Sweet Tomatoes hasn't ever opened in A'vl - seems like it would do well there. Oh, Ruby Tuesday has a fairly decent one - I tend to go to them when my on the road choices are just chains.

That's what I was going to suggest - EarthFare salad bar is awesome, hot and cold food, lots of selection and organics. The one on Hendersonville Road seems to be a little bigger, but the Westgate one is good too. Greenlife is good too.

Yes, I would love to get a Sweet Tomatoes-we go to the one in Cary whenever we visit my brother-in-law. It's our 6-year old niece's favorite place to go-she even asked to go there for her birthday dinner! At one time, we were supposed to be getting a Doc Green's beside Lenny's Sub Shop in South Asheville, but I guess that deal fell through. I went to their website, and it looked really cool-basically a custom-order salad joint. Maybe they'll come to town eventually.

                2. Greenlife on Merrimon has an awesome salad bar, along with some warm foods also. Their sandwiches, wraps, sushi, and soup are great for lunch also.

So it looks like Greenlife or EarthFare is the choice
                    Which is better?
                    What is the Differences?
                    What is the cost?
                    Who has the better soup?

                    1. re: mustardgirl

Greenlife has great soups and they'll give you a little cup to taste before you choose. EarthFare may do that, too.

The Hungarian Cabbage soup at Greenlife is wonderful.

                      1. re: mustardgirl

                        That's a good question.

I go to Greenlife alot, and like it a little better than Earth Fare, but really they are kind of close. I like Greenlife's wraps a lot, and the soup is really good, and they have brown rice sushi, which I love.

I think, mustardgirl, you and your husband need to go to both, do a comparison, and then come back and tell us which is better!

It is too bad Fresh Market does not have a Salad Bar . This is my favorite market in Asheville
