Recommendations - San Fran meal as wedding gift

Hi all,

Some friends are heading to San Francisco for their honeymoon, and a bunch of us would like to get them a restaurant gift certificate as their wedding gift. We're looking for someplace in the city, since we don't want them to spend the evening driving around lost. They're young, adventurous eaters, not picky at all, although the groom is lactose-intolerant. I'd like somewhere with a cool atmosphere as well as mind-blowing food. From perusing the board, it seems that Coi and Ame are options? Spots that use local California ingredients are especially welcome suggestions. They will be there in early June, so snagging a reservation is important.

Thanks very much.

  1. There was a recent thread that might be helpful, about romantic occasion destinations downtown:
Looks like they ended up with Bix.
You could never go wrong with Chez Panisse either; though it is a BART ride and a stroll away, it would be memorable.

    1. Gary Danko or La Folie...gorgeous food and scene!

      1. Both Coi and Ame are excellent choices. I think Coi might be prefereable since it is a bit harder to get a reservation for, the surroundings are more intimate, there is more of an emphasis on fresh local ingredients, and Coi can easily accommodate lactose-intolerance, as very few of their dishes use dairy. Coi also has an excellent wine-paring available. If the couple drinks wine, a gift of the tasting menu with the wine pairing would be something to remember.

        1. I don't think you could go wrong with either of those. I've not been to Coi myself, but I love Ame! Great idea for a gift!

          1. Thanks so much. I'll let you all know what we go with.
