I recently tried the banana cake at Billy's Bakery in New York, and I can only describe the experience as religious. Best cake I've ever tried. Banana cake with cream cheese icing? Does anyone have any suggestions for a good similar recipe. I live nearby but am moving away soon and now that I've tasted it I don't think I can live without!

thanks!

  1. I'm a big fan of Paula Deen's banana cake recipe:

Don't totally mash the bananas - having some big chunks is a good thing. I usually substitute toasted walnuts for the pecans in the cake and totally skip the nuts in the frosting. A light dusting of finely chopped nuts around the edges of the finished cake might be a nice touch though.

By the way, I've tasted Billy's banana cake and completely agree with your assessment. That said, I think Paula's recipe makes a fine substitute.
