Looking for Roti in Toronto

dawich Apr 15, 2008 08:59 AM

Just moved here form Oakville and am looking for a place to get good West Indian Roti. I have tried Nicies and didn't care to much for it. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

I live in the Yonge and Lawrence area.

You should take a little trip and try Caribbean Palms...it's in the Flemingdon Plaza on Don Mills road...east side north of Overlea Blvd., south of Eglinton. Very good jerk chicken and I really LOVE their boneless chicken rotis...wonderful spicing and very good value. I believe they have a lunchtime buffet too...never been at lunch.

Check out Little Jamaica at Eglinton and Oakwood

My fave in the city is always Island Foods (http://www.island-foods.com/)

I went to Island foods the other day. Is it me or does the hot sauce taste different? First, I had to beg her for extra dashes of the hot sauce and when I ate it, I couldn't taste that distinctive Island Foods hot sauce flavour?!?
Anyone else notice this? Did they change the recipe?

*sigh* Remembering the good ole days when Island Foods was in Dufferin Mall. Now THAT was a good roti.

I had the goat roti the other day at Island foods. It was all right. Meat wasn't very tender, though.

I miss Island Foods in Dufferin Mall! When I was little that was the highlight of my food court experience. Forget about KFC or McDonalds it was all about a potato or chicken roti from Island Foods.

Now I hit up the King and Dufferin location or the one at Don Mills around York Mills.

Best Roti - Sammi's in Rexdale - just north of etobicoke hospital. Not exactly close to you but Rexdale has the best roti.

Dawich, you don't mention which area of the city you are in. Drupati's on Albion Rd., just east of Islington is great--super doubles too. There's another roti place in the same mall too, I think. I also like Island Foods, Don Mills near York Mills.

oops sorry, yes you did say Yonge and Lawrence. There's a fairly new place on Yonge, just north of Eglinton that serves WI food. I haven't had it, but I know a couple of people who said it was quite good. Can't remember the name, but I think it's been discussed here on CH.

The place is called Caribbean Bistro. It's good but on the pricier end of the roti spectrum (comes with the neighbourhood I guess). A chicken roti is about $8.99 and Chickpea is $6.99 if I remember correctly.
