Diamond Pizza (East York)

Just showing my love for Diamond Pizza (on Main st.) and their other location In Scarborough. Who gets delivery from here? Man, when I was in college My friends and I just about put their kids through college, I seem to remember at the house we lived at sometimes ordering 3 times a day. Faves are the chicken caesar salad (they DRENCH the dressing on sometimes hahah) Garlic bread...anyone ever order the bureka? I think they have the most extensive delivery menu in the city.

  1. They dump takeout menus in my mailbox every few months. I've been curious, but the breadth of the menu has always frightened me off of ordering from them: I've been of the opinion that if you try to do too much, you end up doing nothing well.

      vorpal, my thoughts exactly.

I'll give it a shot though, even though we've always been happy with Bona, just to try something new.

Not always but usually the case.

      2. I will have to try them out. Golden Pizza is probably in the same range of culinary experience, and I like Golden pretty well. I find the Greek-run pizza places tend to offer everything under the sun on their menus, but so far they have all managed to make their pizza taste pretty good.

        1. Good Pizza, Bad Delivery.

Their pizza is surprisingly good. But the catch is you often have to wait up to 2 hours to have it delivered by navigationally challenged delivery people who have no working knowledge of the local street grids. It's 2010 for God''s sake. Hasn't Diamond heard of GPS?

Other irritant is the crazy lady who answers delivery requests. Be prepared for interruptions, misunderstandings, arguments and stream of conciousness rants when ordering from Diamond.

I finally gave up on Diamond about a month ago after a fruitless conversation with crazy lady who screamed "OH DUMB, DUMB, DUMB, DUMB!!!!!" after the 4th time I corrected her on my street address. Since then, I've stuck with Pizza Pizza (crust tastes like cardboard but at least it arrives under 40 minutes).

Could not agree more. I have had the exact same experiences with this place. Unfortunately, the pizza is good, however the delivery times are not acceptable.

I started ordering from Diamond about two months ago and never had any contact with the "crazy lady"... Maybe she's no longer there? Haven't had any issues with delivery times either.

              1. re: itsvince

I got delivery a few times last month and didn't have any time issues either.

          2. Noticed the frequent flyer dumps too... we went to a friend's place who ordered the pizza for dinner & we were sold. It was delicious and price was comparable.

Now, we order from Diamond (Main St. location) at least every other week. (For at least the last 6 months or so) We always get the same thing - 2 mediums with 2 topping each. Toppings on the bottom, cheese on the top. Hot & fresh. We haven't tried anything else so can't comment.

We haven't experienced delivery problems, it's been fast & efficient for us. (Exception being an order we placed on a Saturday night...(not surprising of course) it was a little slower than usual but pizza arrived hot.) It is our new pizza place and would never eat pizza from the big franchises now that we have this option. (We prefer Danforth Pizza but without delivery, it's a challenge for us to get over there some nights.)

            1. Do they have slices ready to go??

Ive been ordering from the Scarborough placefor the past couple years, I wouldnt say they have incredible food or anything, but its good enough and the wide range of menu items is perfect for someone who mas the munchies and is tired of ordering more common items like pizza.

I like to order the Gyro on a Pita, its pretty tasty. Their chicken wings are laughable, tiny little things if i remember, but not breaded, and the sauces werent anything to write home about, but i dont mind em when im hungry.

Ive ordered burgers from there, panzerotto, poutines, even a milkshake once!

Its been a while since ive ordered from em, but after writing this I think im due.

Again, Diamonds Pizza probably wont win any awards, but if you are looking for something thats very affordable and has a lot of options, Diamonds will do the trick for sure!

              2. I'm a big fan of Diamond Pizza. I always get the 5 toppings for the price of 3 special and use 2 toppings for double cheese. This is the best delivery pizza I've had in Toronto (the Main Street location anyway - haven't tried their other location). And I love the dough ball in the middle, that is so old school!

I've also tried the wings, which are small but good, and fairly priced IMO. The souvlaki special is also very decent.

Has anyone tried their poutine? Just wondering if they use cheese curds... Can't really go wrong for $3.75 though. Ok that's it I'm totally going there tonight.

Havent had Diamonds in a little while but I wouldnt call their wings good. They are small, which isnt a deciding factor, they are just the most boring wings ever. As far as the Poutine, Ive ordered it before and it was decent enough I guess, I think they use shredded cheese but dont quote me on that. Im pretty sure they just use the same cheese as the pizza.

Thats one thing I like about Diamond, that you can order something other then pizza. Ive ordered a burger, shake and poutine from them, definetely nice to have that option for delivery. I also used to order their Gyro's which I liked, they werent anything special but they were good.

                  1. re: jmarcroyal

Had the poutine last night. They use shredded cheese, mozzarella, which is a major faux pas, and the gravy isn't that great either. The fries are fine I guess. At least it's better than Harbour 60's fois gras poutine nightmare, which also uses shredded cheese and barely any gravy, with a couple scorched fois gras leftover pieces on top; but that's for another thread.

I agree, the variety at Diamond's is a great plus. There's something for everyone, and it's all edible.

Picked up our order for the first time last night. Won't be doing that again - the place is sort of crusty and smoky with a high sketchiness factor, and seeing how the food is prepared wasn't very appetizing. I'd rather not know where it came from. Out of sight out of mind.

Still the pizza is really good.

                    1. re: itsvince

I order from Diamond from time to time and find their menu a bit hit-and-miss. I like their souvlaki and gyros but think the poutine dreadful. I really dislike the gravy - it has a weird 'off' taste to me. I've never ordered their pizza so I can't comment on that. I've never had any delivery problems - in fact, they're usually one of the fastest places we order from.

I've sometimes wondered what it's like at the actual restaurant but their Dine Safe report is ok so that's all I really need to know!

                      1. re: itsvince

Ok, it's Diamond we're talking here, I don't even expect them to be using curds

                        1. re: Bobby Wham

Yea, at the end of the day, Diamond is just a place that is meant to cater to school kids at lunch, so their whole goal is fast and cheap. I think Delivery is something they added after the fact, so they are only delivering the junk you might have grabbed for lunch in high school. As said earlier, it convenient and its edlible, and if im going to order takeout I like the option of ordering a burger or a gyro or souvlaki instead of pizza and wings.

One thing to note about the poutine, you can order a Greek Poutine, which is the fries with greek salad dressing and a bunch of feta cheese. I prefer that over the standard poutine...
