Boston restaurant discount books?
I never use these things, but a friend was curious about what's available out there. I know there are some websites that sell discount coupons, and heavy OpenTable users get cash rewards usable only at restaurants. Any other affinity programs, discount coupons books, or other similar type programs for Boston restaurants that you've used, can recommend, or think are a big waste of time?

Not sure how you join but related to the Boston Phoenix is Value Club (valueclub.org); my wife is able to purchase what they call "script", most participating restaurants give you a 33% discount; last week I purchased $150 worth for Great Bay for $82.50, 45% discount (it was on sale). Check out their website. The thing is, however, that you have to buy them in advance and although there is no expiration date, you should know that you are going to use them or lose them since you have already paid for them. I had purchased some for the Grille Zone and when they closed down, Value Club just replaced them with "script" for another restaurant of my choosing. I previously have purchased them for Sonsie, Tresca and El Pelon; Taranta was on their list but they dropped out of the program.

I always seem to get these books as gifts, and they usually seem to end up under my car seat next to old Dunkin' Donuts napkins and plastic World Series championship cups. I must have 4 or 5 of them down there from various years:

Most of the coupons I'll never use, but some of them come in handy, especially the ones for pizza places and sub shops, since I can always find something to eat at those places.
