Someone had asked about Falcon, the new trendoid spot at Sunset and Formosa. I went there last night. It's worth a visit if you like the Kruder and Dorfmeister loungey atmosphere that has become so pervasive. I really liked the design of the place - most of the elements are borrowed from places like the Mondrian or the Standard. I ate out on the patio which was perfectly pleasant, but they really need to put more plants out there, as it is a bit barren. As far as the food, I found it mixed. The food prices were not unreasonable (a number of entrees were $12-15) but the wine list was uninspiring and appeared overpriced to me ($31 for a bottle of Ravenswood?). My appetizer was excellent - a fresh English pea soup with sweet 100 tomatoes and a spoon of pesto in the broth. My friend's salad looked uninspring. My main course was good but not great - a pleasantly smoky tasting meatloaf with an overly buttered corn succotash. We shared banana beignets for dessert, which weren't as light as good beignets should be.

Side note - they made one of the better mojitos I've had in LA.

I'm sure I'll go back to Falcon at some point: it's a fun place to go, just don't expect culinary nirvana.
