Fabulous lunch in Charleston yesterday

Hey Chowhounds- had a great lunch yesterday at Palmetto Cafe in the Charleston Place. I have eaten there before, but yesterday blew me away. I always !get their gazpacho, which has red and yellow gazpacho with thinly sliced cucumbers around the side of the bowl, but yesterday it wasn't on the menu yet. So my friend and I decided to split two salads, the Crab and Avocado salad and the Grilled Shrimp Salad. The waiter was very pleasant and said he would have them split it in the kitchen- when they brought our order, our"halves" were HUGE. There must have been a pound of crab on both of our plates. Our "grilled shrimp" resembled lobster tails, they were so big! And they had great flavor- don't know what they marinate them in before grilling. If anybody knows their recipes for either salad, please post it or send me the link. We ate in the courtyard with the fountain and it was the best Charleston lunch ever in my 25 years of Charleston lunches! If anyone is planning on shopping on King Street or the Market, this is a great spot to refresh! vpholmes

That sounds right up my alley! We are headed down this Friday for a week. I am adding this to my list. Do they serve dinner as well? Serve wine or BYO??

Hey- hope you have a great week! They do not serve dinner, they are a spot for breakfast or lunch and a Sunday brunch. Here is their website:http://www.charlestonplace.com/web/oc...
and you can look it over! I know they have full bar...the mojitos looked very popular! PS...The Charleston Grill is right beside them and serves dinner- check it out! vpholmes

Thanks for the link! It gave me a "DUH" moment. We are staying at Charleston Place. I remember looking at the restaurants when we first booked and when you mentioned it I had completely forgotten. Good thing I take notes!

Thank you! I am also headed down there Friday with my daughter. This sounds like a place both of us would enjoy.

The crab and avocado salad is $23. Palmetto Cafe is $$$.

The crab WAS a steal. We ate the crab salad yesterday and it was FABULOUS. Tons of crab, simply dressed, served with the creamist avocado slices. We also had the lobster salad, and it was every bit as good (as expensive). It came with fried, breaded cherry tomatoes that were unexepcted and yummy.

I was responding to the price point question. I agree the salad is worth every last penny! So was everything else we enjoyed in Charleston.
