Jordan and Syria?

I'm in Istanbul now headed to Jordan (Petra only) and Syria (Damascus, Aleppo, Palmyra), and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for Damascus and Aleppo. I'm not expecting too much from Petra and Palmyra, but was hoping to find something nice in the cities.

    Hello,
Sorry I am late, I was away. One nice restaurant in Damascus is called Omayyad Palace Restarant, it is located behind the Hamadiah shopping bazar. You would go through the Hamadiah, then see the Omayyad Mosque, then continue on walking, look for the sign, and ask for help. The setting is an ancient home, wonderful antiques everywhere, and the food is very good, it is an open buffet style. The bathroom is clean, and you will feel comfortable there.
In Palmyra there is not much to choose from. I am sorry but you might not have the best food experience there, it is a small place and limited. But you will have to see where others are going and just try to make do. The Cham Hotel there should have something decent, but the local restaurants in the town might be worth a try as well.
As far as Aleppo: this is a place well known for good food. I would try Wanes which is excellent food in a formal setting. Anything you order there will be delicious, they are well known. Or try Qantara, which is located in the area of old hotels, which is a tourist section. Qantara is Italian food menu, excellent imported cheeses. But of course the Syrian style of salads and starters will be present, but the menu has pastas, and pizzas, and other Italian dishes. The locals love to go to Grand House. You should go through the old area, near the Sisi Hotel, you may see something nice there.

the best syrian street food i had was at the bus stop at Homs- ask for the chicken with labneh shawarma from the big food stall between the ticket counters and the platform where the buses come. delicious!
