Quick dinner on the way out of the city in The Bronx?

Hey all-

I am coming to Queens with a friend for 3 days and leaving on Wednesday around dinner time. I know where we're going for most other meals, but I don't want to waste a single chance for good food. Anyplace you can think of to stop on the way out? Probably taking Whitestone to Hutchinson. Jerk chicken, maybe, or someplace on city island? Hole in the wall with great food would be ideal!

  1. MTWfromCT, I would highly recommend Artie's on City Island (394 City Island Ave.)...It is one of the best restaurants in the Bronx if not further, serving a wonderful mix of contemporary and traditional dishes with flair. Great chowders and bisques; Cold Seafood Salad; Salmon Roll Ups; Trawler sized Zuppa di Pesce, Wood Grilled Shrimp & Scallops; tender Lamb or Pork Osso Buco with Pappardelle noodles, Braised Short Ribs...good staff and service too. wwwartiesofcityisland.com

    1. I would (and many times have) stop on Arthur Ave. Do a little grocery shopping for home, have a quick dinner at Dominic's. Great food, worth the experience if you've never been. We find nothing like this in CT.!!!!!!

I second Arthur Ave. I just wanted to mention that the the markets at arthur ave close by 6. Madonia bakery is open till 7, and they fill your cannoli fresh, yummm. If you are a queens native of a certain age and want a reminder of Gloria's pizza, grab a slice at Amore's pizza at the Pathmark Shopping Center off the Whitestone expressway.

      2. Thanks! I am a big fan of Arthur Ave as well. Just thinking of something a little different this time. Artie's sounds like a possibility...

        1. Just browsing around online, checking out a few suggestions and noticed that you can get a $25 off coupon for Artie's of City Island (and MANY other restaurants listed on this board) for $10 from Restaurant.com. This is a legit site i have used before. You just need to read the fine print re:when you can go, how many in party, etc. But if you're heading out to a place anyway, might as well check this site to see what's there!

You might enjoy the Latin Kitchen at 3800 East Tremont Avenue - good Puerto Rican/Domincan food in a pleasant setting. I particularly liked their maduros, and their pernil, while not extraordinary, was fine.

          2. Maybe check out Vernon's Jerk Paradise. I think it is on 237 th St. I have not been there for about 5 years, hope its still there. Best Jerk in the Bron-x.
